17 Love Poems & Quotes Muslim Wedding or Valentines

As we approach Valentines day (ie the modern month of love) we wanted to share some poems about this mystery called love. But what is love? There is no one definition. The Greeks broke it down into the following seven types:

  1. Storge: natural affection, love for family
  2. Philia: love for friends.
  3. Eros: erotic sexual love
  4. Agape:  unconditional divine love
  5. Ludus:  playful love,  innocent childish love or flirting.
  6. Pragma: long standing love (as in marriage)
  7. Philautia: self love

Here we are obviously talking more about Eros, Ludus, and Pragma, but all the love types are inter-linked. Without having divine love of God, the rest lose context. Without self-love (not the egotistic type) it is hard to love others and so on. Love is about the 3 C’s Commitment, Compatibility and Chemistry. Whether it be a wedding or Valentines day, every day love or a wedding anniversary, we can agree that it is truly love that makes the world go around.

We could go on and on about love, but let’s leave it to the poets and philosophers:

– “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” Khalil Gibran

– “But I love your feet
only because they walked
upon the earth and upon
the wind and upon the waters,
until they found me.”

-“Your task is not to seek for love,

but merely to seek and find all the barriers

within yourself that you have built against it.”

Rumi

-“At night I dream that you and I are two plants
that grew together, roots entwined,
and that you know the earth and the rain like my mouth,
since we are made of earth and rain.”

Pablo Neruda

-“I want to see you. Know your voice. Recognize you when you first come ’round the corner. Sense your scent when I come into a room you’ve just left. Know the lift of your heel, the glide of your foot. Become familiar with the way you purse your lips then let them part, just the slightest bit, when I lean in to your space and kiss you. I want to know the joy of how you whisper ‘more.’”

Rumi

– “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing there is a field. I’ll meet you there.”

Rumi

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.”

Kahlil Gibran

– “The heart is a the thousand-stringed instrument that can only be tuned with Love.”

Hafez

– “Let us be like

Two falling stars in the day sky.

Let no one know of our sublime beauty

As we hold hands with God

And burn

Into a sacred existence that defies –

That surpasses

Every description of ecstasy

And love.”

Hafez

-“If I know what love is, it is because of you.”

Hermann Hesse

-“Until we have seen someone’s darkness, we don’t really know who they are. Until we have forgiven someone’s darkness, we don’t really know what love is.”

Dr. Seuss

– “You know you’re in love when you don’t want to fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

Paulo Coelho

– “Because my love for you is beyond words, I decided to shut up.”

Nizar Qabbani

– “My lover asks me:
“What is the difference between me and the sky?”
The difference, my love,
Is that when you laugh,
I forget about the sky”

Nizar Qabbani

“Most importantly love
like it’s the only thing you know how
at the end of the day all this
means nothing
this page
where you’re sitting
your degree
your job
the money
nothing even matters
except love and human connection
who you loved
and how deeply you loved them
how you touched the people around you
and how much you gave them”

Rupi Kaur

– “After marriage, motherhood and mayhem, I am closer to the eye of the swirling vortex where love lives. I do know that love is blind, it’s true, it can be false, it can be true, it creates loss and undoes loss.”

Jolie Kanat

– “I’ve decided, like the chaos theory, it has no center, just motion. Love is made of motion: like the feeling of dancing in a twirly skirt, or seeing a mysterious gift”
