Mainstream news has been abuzz with the celebrity wedding of actor George Clooney, one of Hollywood’s hottest men, and human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin, in scenes worthy of a James Bond film in Venice on September 27, 2014. As Perfect Muslim Wedding covers the wedding industry, we thought it be interesting to go back and take a look at “The Most Expensive Weddings” in the Guinness Book of Records, 2015. Here they are in reverse order of least to most expensive wedding.

On further investigation, it turns out that many of these couples are no longer married, some have after the breakup, passed away. The “broke-up” list includes Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman, Elizabeth Hurley and Arun Nayar, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, Elizabeth Taylor and Larry Fortensky, Liza Minnelli and David Gest, Prince Charles and Diana. If the weddings were the most expensive, I shudder to think what the divorces cost. Although we wish all wedded couples the best, for the survivors on this list, it is too early to say how things will play out.

You may not be surprised, considering these are celebrities, but still in a world filled with popular culture where celebrities and wanna-be celebrities are idolized, it is good to take a pause and think about who or what we aspire to.

A wedding is a social institution that has existed since time immemorial. With all the social pressures that we face day to day, it is a blessing not having our names on a list like this. You can still have an elegant wedding, just keep it simple, and cost-friendly.

Your thoughts?
