Firstly, we recommend starting your marriage off with an adventurous honeymoon. With that said, we decided to put together our top 13 destinations. Secondly, we wanted to expand from the go-to places like the Maldives, Mecca, and Istanbul.
We selected cities and places that have some aspect of Muslim culture. Whether it be population, faith or other. Thirdly, as with any adventure, you want to read and talk to people who can give you advice. This includes travel-shots and safety tips.
Lastly, a honeymoon allows you to not only explore new places, but to explore your relationship as well. Most couples choose to go on their honeymoon immediately after the wedding. However, you can choose to delay it to a more convenient time. So, let’s go on an adventure:
1. Cappadocia, Turkey
This is one of the most popular destinations in Turkey, other than Istanbul. You’ll find romantic hotels in caves, hot air balloons and more. This is a great honeymoon retreat for the adventurous couple.
2. Baku, Azerbaijan
Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan and the largest city in the Caucasus. It offers a cultural heritage influenced by both West (Russia) and East (Persia).
3. Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei
It’s a small, but significant state adjoining Malaysia. It offers a diverse range of attractions from historial sites to grand mosques. Perfect for the honeymooning couple.
4. Chefchaouen, Morocco
Marrakesh, Tangier, and Casablanca are more well-known destinations in Morocco. Chefchaouen is a city known for its buildings in all hues of blue, which is a must-visit.
5. Dakar, Senegal
With natural historic sites as well as luxury beach resorts, Dakar offers a lot of diversity. It is a great hub from which you can visit wildlife and go on nature tours.
6. Doha, Qatar
Although Qatar gets overshadowed by Dubai, it has still great things to offer. From The Museum of Islamic Art to beaches and ultra-modern hotels. This a worthwhile destination to consider.
7. Isfahan, Iran
Although there are many destinations in Iran, Isfahan exhibits show-stopping beauty. Isfahan or “Half the World,” encompasses so much allure and artistry. From the ancient mosques to the markets, this is a must add to your adventurous honeymoon list.
8. Koloi, Gambia
Koloi sits on the mouth of the Atlantic coast and the Gambia river. It’s the smallest country in Africa and one of the most approachable. It has a diversity of landscapes from beaches to forests to colonial architecture. Gambia has over 95% Muslim population and is a relatively stable country.
9. Petra, Jordan
Petra is the most popular tourist destinations in Jordan. It’s a historical and archaeological city with rock-cut architecture and water conduit system. Jordan is stable and offers many other attractions for budding couples.
10. Phi Phi Islands, Thailand
Phi Phi is a heaven-on-earth destination. A beautiful archipelago in the Krabi Province, not too far from Phuket. It offers turquoise waters and beautiful resorts. It also has a strong 80% Muslim population.
11. Samarkand, Uzbekistan
As a former Soviet republic, Uzbekistan doesn’t get the recognition it is due. The famous twin cities of Samarkand and Bukhara offer a rich share of culture and history. Which includes the Silk Road that passes through them. Samarkand is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Central Asia, with a rich Muslim heritage.
12. Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina
Despite its history with World War I and the Balkans War, Sarajevo offers a rich Ottoman heritage. It has great sites to visit and people to meet in the heart of Europe.
13. Tunis, Tunisia
Tunis offers a cosmopolitan culture with a mix of ancient and modern landmarks. It sits right on the Mediterranean coast with beautiful golden beaches.
